It is possible to make an animated film using the digital stills camera on your mobile phone and a basic laptop pc with Windows Movie Maker for XP (Vista Users have it automatically) or Microsoft Photo Story 3. Both pieces of software are available as a free download from Microsofts downloads website, just follow the links for a download.
Blutac Dog is my own very fast attempt at making a stop motion animation using my mobile and some Blu-tac. I have saved the animation at 2, 4 and 8 frames per second to demonstrate the different effective speeds and therefore realism. Depending on the tone and pace you wish to use convey with your animation may determine how often you change frame and whether you are consistent with your frame changes. You can make a very effective animation with minimal frames and frame changes see New Potato as an example.
So how do you make an animation on your mobile?
How to make an animation:
Take your mobile phone and stick it to the desk on a large lump of blu-tac and then model the remaining into a four legged animal... Four legged because it is less likely to fall over when animating. Then move the animal a little bit and then take a photo and repeat. Get it to sit down... retrieve a paperclip... beg... or just run around madly... Repeat until you have taken about about 80 still pictures. Try not to move your camera too much when pressing the shoot button and try and not to disturb the objects in your cameras field of view.
When you have taken 80 pictures connect your phone to your PC using the USB cable (Most phones these days are supplied with one) and transfer the images to a new folder on your PC. When you have done that disconnect your phone and open the program Windows Movie Maker.
Right click on Collections (XP) or Imported Media (Vista) and Create New Collection.
Name it "Blutac Dog" or something that is relavant to your film.
Next click on Add to Collections (XP) or Import Media (Vista) and browse to the location where you placed your photos. Select them and click on OK...
